First Project VillageVillage Kanda Khalsa, Sitonsyun
Village Kanda Khalsa, Sitonsyun is the village of the founder President of the organization so selected as Project Village to start its activities first. The village was just 12 km away from district head quarter Pauri but very far from development. There was no connectivity of link road, for drinking water people used to fetch water from “Dhara” (water source) 2 or 3 km away. There was open defecation all around of the village. Village land was nude without trees of forest and fruit plants. The organization started its activities in its project village with the co-operation and full involvement of villagers in the activities of the organization. At present the village has drinking water and separate toilet at every house hold. It is connected with link road. There is growing forest and fruit plants at every house hold.
Environment Awareness Campaign
To conduct an annual school painting competition on Road Safety.Parivartan Grameen Samaj Sevi Sanstha has been actively engaging school students in important social and environmental causes. One such initiative is the annual school painting competition focused on *Road Safety*, aimed at spreading awareness among young minds in a creative and impactful way.In addition, the organization began a tree plantation drive in collaboration with Shri Guru Ram Public School, Pauri. Students and teachers enthusiastically plant saplings every year to promote environmental awareness. The Forest Department of Pauri has been a consistent partner in this effort, generously providing free saplings to support the cause.Since 1997, PGSSS has also conducted extensive awareness campaigns in partnership with Uttarakhand Sevanidhi, Almora, with financial support from the Ministry of Forest and Environment. These campaigns have played a vital role in educating rural communities about sustainability and environmental preservation.
Water conservation Saldang Gad (A stream) for water conservation
Parivartan Grameen Samaj Sevi Sanstha (PGSSS) has taken a significant step toward sustainable water management by selecting *Saldang Gad*, a seasonal stream, as a model site for water conservation efforts. Understanding the critical need for water in the region, the organization constructed four gabion check dams along the stream. Of these, two include reinforced cement concrete (RCC) on the inner side with the goal of gradually raising the riverbed. The thoughtful design of these structures ensures that the natural flow of water is not blocked permanently, preserving the biodiversity of the surrounding ecosystem. Over the years, as the streambed elevates, water retention will improve, contributing to groundwater recharge and increased availability of water for irrigation. This initiative is expected to bring long-term benefits to nearby agricultural land, allowing farmers to grow better crops through improved irrigation access, and reinforcing PGSSS’s commitment to sustainable rural development.
Mini Dairy Skill Development Program
To promote sustainable livelihoods and economic empowerment in rural areas, Parivartan Grameen Samaj Sevi Sanstha (PGSSS) organized a series of promotional and exposure tours for mini dairy stakeholders. These visits to various model dairy units across different regions aimed to enhance their skills, broaden their understanding, and inspire adoption of best practices in dairy farming.Participants were educated on modern dairy techniques, animal care, feed management, and hygienic milking processes. Emphasis was placed on the importance of mutual cooperation, collective action, and forming groups or cooperatives to strengthen their economic position. In addition, the stakeholders were introduced to the processes of milk processing, grading, and packaging to understand how value addition can significantly increase their profits. These trainings have helped foster a new sense of confidence and self-reliance among rural dairy farmers, encouraging them to take progressive steps toward sustainable dairy entrepreneurship.
Spices Production SHGs and Kisan Clubs
PGSSS availed seed kits of chili, ginger and turmeric to the SHGs and Kisan Clubs and arranged training programme to the beneficiaries. The Horticulture Office of Pauri supported the organization with 50% subsidy in the rates of the seed of ginger and turmeric. Although the time of the crop is 9 month for ginger and turmeric. Chili takes 4 months for harvesting. This year there was heavy rain and the result of chili could not get as expected even then the organization tried to give the training of making pickle as value addition of the produce. Ginger and turmeric has good production. The stakeholders kept the seed for next crop and sold the produce to the market. PGSSS also purchased 500 kg of chili, 3000 kg turmeric and 2000 kg of ginger from the stakeholder and started to process that for the marketing. The organization also purchased local food grains like ragi, sawan, gahath dal, soyabeen, tuhar dal, hari dal and sesame from the SHGs and took all the material in the state fair at Pauri on 9th November 2016 on the Uttarakhand Day celebration. It is only to encourage local farmers to produce their traditional crops with assurance for marketing
Working with the Brasilindia organization since 2020.
Parivartan Grameen Samaj Sevi Sanstha has been proudly collaborating with the Brasilindia Foundation since 2020, fostering a rich exchange between Indian and Amazonian cultures, particularly in the field of traditional medicine. Founded by Claudia Raschel Leema, Brasilindia works with indigenous communities in the Amazon rainforest to preserve and share the healing power of native herbs. Last week, Ms. Claudia, along with a team of Ayurvedic experts—including Mr. Shishir Marma, Dr. Maurya from Parmarth Niketan Rishikesh, Dr. Deshraj, and yoga specialist Mr. Kaivalya from Bengaluru—visited Parivartan School and the village of Kanda. They conducted free health check-ups for students, teachers, staff, and local villagers. Beyond treatment, they reintroduced the use of local Himalayan herbs—once well known to grandmothers but now nearly forgotten—reviving valuable natural knowledge. These ongoing health camps not only promote wellness but also reconnect communities with their ancestral roots in healing.
