đź’› Uplifting Futures: How Small Acts of Kindness Are Changing Lives at Parivartan

At Parivartan Public School, every child carries a dream. But in the remote hill regions of Uttarakhand, where access to even basic facilities is a daily challenge, many dreams risk fading away in the face of poverty and loss. Yet, time and again, the kindness of ordinary individuals lights the way. Here are two powerful stories of compassion and hope that remind us of the change we can bring by supporting even one child.

Sneha Bhatt – A Ray of Hope in Grade 1

Sneha Bhatt, a bright and cheerful student of  Class 1, comes from a humble background in one of the far-flung villages served by Parivartan. Her parents, like many in this area, struggle to meet even the basic needs. Quality education, which is taken for granted in urban spaces, remains a distant dream for most children here.

But Sneha’s story took a beautiful turn thanks to the generosity of Mr. Ramesh Chamola, an employee at State Bank of India in Ludhiana. Touched by Parivartan’s mission, he stepped forward to sponsor Sneha’s school fees for six months. This simple yet powerful act ensured that Sneha could continue her studies with dignity, hope, and excitement.

At Parivartan, we believe  every child deserves a chance —and Sneha’s story is proof of how just one helping hand can shape a child’s future.

Ojas & Tejas – Finding Strength After Tragedy

Ojas and Tejas, two brothers studying at Parivartan Public School, have recently faced one of life’s harshest realities. On November 1st, their father, Kamal Dabral, tragically lost his life in a road accident. The sudden loss devastated the family. Their mother, a grieving widow with no education and no source of income, is now left to raise her children alone.

Parivartan School has stepped in to support their education, ensuring that the boys continue to study and find stability despite the storm they are weathering. But the need goes beyond tuition. These children require emotional support, daily essentials, and the comfort of knowing they’re not alone.

This is where your support becomes invaluable. These two young boys represent thousands like them who carry silent stories of struggle—but also great potential.

The villages we serve are rich in culture but poor in resources. Education is the only bridge between hardship and hope. At Parivartan, we invite compassionate individuals to come forward—to sponsor a child, provide learning materials, or simply spread the word.

Your small contribution could be the reason a child like Sneha stays in school, or why brothers like Ojas and Tejas don’t have to give up on their dreams.

“You may not be able to help everyone, but you can help someone. And to that someone, it means everything.”

Celebrating the Soul of India at Parivartan School

At  Parivartan Public School, education goes beyond books and blackboards—it’s about nurturing responsible, aware citizens who understand the roots of their country and the value of its freedom. National festivals like Republic Day, Independence Day, and Gandhi Jayanti  are celebrated not just as holidays, but as opportunities to instill deep respect and pride for India among our students.

Republic Day – Honoring Our Constitution
Every year on January 26th, the Parivartan School campus echoes with the rhythm of patriotism as students, teachers, and villagers come together to celebrate Republic Day. The tricolor is hoisted with pride, followed by a cultural program that includes patriotic songs, speeches, and skits explaining the importance of the Indian Constitution and the sacrifices made to uphold democracy.

Our students actively participate in essay writing, drawing, and debate competitions around themes like rights and duties, unity in diversity, and India’s progress. It’s a day of reflection, reminding everyone of the power of our democratic values.

Gandhi Jayanti – Learning from the Mahatma

On October 2nd, Parivartan School commemorates Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of  Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. The day begins with students singing bhajans like “Vaishnav Jan To“, followed by storytelling sessions about Bapu’s life, values of non-violence, truth, and simple living.

Children often come dressed as Gandhiji and present speeches and plays that highlight his role in India’s freedom struggle. More importantly, they learn how his principles are still relevant in today’s world—be it in resolving conflicts, respecting others, or protecting the environment.

Independence Day – A Tribute to Our Freedom Fighters

On  August 15th, the entire school is draped in the colors of freedom. Our students sing the national anthem and perform dances and dramas based on India’s struggle for independence. The  flag-hoisting ceremony is conducted with great reverence, and guests from the local community are invited to share their words of encouragement.

Children pay tribute to great freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh , Rani Lakshmi bai,  Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar   through their performances. The message is clear—freedom was hard-earned, and it’s our duty to preserve and protect it.

Why These Celebrations Matter

In remote hilly areas like ours, students may not always have access to mainstream platforms. But at Parivartan, we make sure they are connected to the  nation’s spirit and values . These celebrations help our children understand the essence of India, its struggles, its heroes, and their own responsibilities as future citizens.

We believe that when a child respects their roots, they grow stronger.

“A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Plantation 2017

Greening the Hills: PGSSS's Ongoing Mission to Reclaim Barren Land Through Plantation

In the lush yet challenging terrain of Uttarakhand, traditional farming is losing its economic viability. As a result, rural populations are steadily migrating to urban centers in search of better opportunities. This shift not only threatens the cultural and ecological identity of the region but also leaves vast stretches of once-cultivated land barren and unused.

Parivartan Grameen Samaj Sevi Sanstha (PGSSS)has recognized the urgent need to reverse this trend. In 2017, as in previous years, PGSSS launched a dedicated plantation drive with a dual purpose—reviving the local ecology and rebuilding sustainable livelihoods.

Fruitful Steps Toward Sustainability

One of the cornerstones of this initiative has been fruit tree plantation. This year, PGSSS volunteers, alongside local community members, planted a variety of fruit-bearing trees—mango, citrus, amla, and pomegranate—across the village of Kanda. These species were selected not just for their ecological benefits but also for their potential to generate income in the long run.

Additionally, PGSSS has taken bold steps by introducing “Green Gold” plants like teak on barren lands. Teak trees, known for their economic value, are a long-term investment in both environmental conservation and financial stability for the local people.

Building Environmental Consciousness Through Education

At Parivartan Public School, environmental awareness begins in the classroom. As a certified “Green School,” it integrates nature education into everyday learning. Children are not only taught about the importance of trees but are also involved in the plantation activities—growing up with a deep respect and responsibility toward the environment.

A Plea for Policy Reform

While PGSSS and its supporters are doing their part on the ground, policy frameworks often pose challenges. A current regulation by the Government of India, backed by the Supreme Court, prohibits tree cutting above 1000 meters sea level. Though intended to protect forests, this law can be counterproductive for hill residents who wish to cultivate their land for sustainable agro-forestry or cash crops.

PGSSS believes that such policies need thoughtful reconsideration, especially when local efforts are aimed at enhancing green cover and empowering communities. The hill regions deserve flexibility to responsibly manage their own natural resources.

PGSSS invites individuals, environmentalists, and policy-makers to join hands in reclaiming barren land, restoring ecology, and revitalizing rural livelihoods. Every sapling planted today is a promise of a greener, more sustainable tomorrow.

Let’s bring back the green to the hills—one tree, one village, one future at a time.

Earth Day Network https://pgsss.in/earth-day-network/ Fri, 18 Apr 2025 00:00:53 +0000 https://pgsss.in/?p=2524

Earth Day at Parivartan: Little Hands, Big Impact

Every year on April 22nd, the world comes together to celebrate Earth Day—a movement dedicated to protecting our planet. At Parivartan Public School, Earth Day isn’t just a one-day event. It’s a reminder that even small steps by young minds can lead to powerful changes for our environment.

This year, our students proudly joined the Earth Day Network by participating in a vibrant and meaningful awareness march through the village. Dressed in bright red uniforms, our children carried handmade posters and banners with strong messages like _“Use Less Plastic”_, _“No Straw Please”_, and _“Recycle”_. One creative globe model reminded everyone that we all share one Earth—and it’s our duty to protect it.

Learning Beyond Classrooms

Through this initiative, our students learned about the importance of reducing plastic use, saving water, and protecting natural resources. They created beautiful posters that highlighted water conservation and sustainable living—showing that education at Parivartan isn’t just about books, but also about becoming responsible citizens.

Teachers and parents proudly supported the children as they walked with confidence and purpose. For many of them, this was their first time actively speaking out for the environment. It sparked curiosity, questions, and a deep sense of ownership toward nature.

Why It Matters

Hill communities like ours are close to nature, but also vulnerable to its changes. Climate change, deforestation, and pollution affect us directly. That’s why it’s essential to involve our youth in such global campaigns—to make them not only aware but active participants in finding solutions.

Parivartan believes that real change starts from the grassroots level. When children take part in movements like Earth Day, they grow up to care more deeply about the world around them. And that’s how a greener, healthier future begins.

Let’s continue to inspire young hearts to love and protect our Earth—not just on April 22nd, but every single day.

Nurturing Young Lives: Health Camps at Parivartan School

In the rural landscapes of Uttarakhand, access to quality healthcare remains a persistent challenge—especially for children. Recognizing the critical link between health and learning, Parivartan Grameen Samaj Sevi Sanstha (PGSSS) has made health check-up camps a vital part of its mission to support holistic child development.

Why Health Camps Matter
For children to grow, learn, and thrive, good health is essential. Unfortunately, many children in remote areas suffer from untreated ailments due to lack of awareness, access, or affordability. Parivartan School addresses this gap by organizing regular health check-up events within the school campus.

These camps ensure that every child receives timely health screenings, helping to identify issues like malnutrition, vision problems, anemia, dental issues, and more—conditions that often go unnoticed but significantly impact a child’s ability to perform in school.

Community and Expert Collaboration
Each health camp is organized in collaboration with local healthcare professionals and volunteer doctors who donate their time and expertise. These events not only provide basic medical care but also offer health education for students and their parents—covering vital topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.

Parents are encouraged to participate, creating a community-driven environment where health becomes a shared priority. In many cases, these camps have served as the first professional health screening children have ever received.

Building a Culture of Care

PGSSS believes that schools should be safe and nurturing spaces, and health is a crucial part of that vision. Through these initiatives, Parivartan is not just educating minds—but protecting and empowering young bodies. A healthy child is more likely to attend school regularly, focus better, and pursue their dreams with confidence.

A Healthier Future Starts Here
Health camps at Parivartan School are more than one-day events—they are stepping stones toward a healthier future for rural children. PGSSS continues to work tirelessly to ensure that every child has access to both quality education and essential healthcare.

If you’d like to support these life-changing initiatives, consider donating or partnering with us. Together, we can build strong, healthy foundations for every child’s tomorrow.
